Faktor energi menambah suatu pijakan baru untuk memahami perencanaan arsitektur secara lebih baik. Tetapi sebenarnya, subyek arsitektur dan konteks lingkungannya bukanlah suatu hal yang baru., karena tujuan dari suatu disain adalah untuk meningkatkan kwalitas dari hasil arsitektur dan lingkungannya. Dalam perspektif lebih luas, lingkungan yang dimaksud adalah lingkungan global alami yang meliputi unsur bumi, udara, air, dan energi yang perlu dilestarikan. Arsitektur Hemat Energi merupakan salah satu tipologi arsitektur yang berorientasi pada konservasi lingkungan global alami. Makalah ini membahas eksistensi arsitektur hemat energi ini dalam konteks wawasan arsitektur hijau (green architecture).
